Marley and Nohea first stages!

Nicholas has been busy over the last few days starting the portraits of Marley and Nohea. As the paintings are for the same client we want a continuity of colour between the paintings. So at the start of the paintings, working on the background and overall colours scheme, Nicholas will have them both side by side on his easel as you can see below. This way he can make sure his colour pallet works well throughout the background stage. As you can see both paintings have a very subtle grassy background and this will work really well with the dogs coat colourings. Once the main blocking in stage is complete, he will then work on each painting individually on the easel. Stay tuned for more stages soon!

That’s an interesting idea, instead of having the 2 subjects on 1 portrait.
I wonder if your client is planning to hang them close together or on opposite sides/walls perhaps…thank you for letting us see this progress.

Hi Kay, Im sure she will be displaying them together, they will hopefully work really well with the continuity of colour between the two. Also both dogs are a similar size within the canvas so that will match too. It’s a lovely idea isn’t it! 馃檪 Melanie x
