Welcome to our latest pet portraits blog post about Molly’s Portrait – Oil Painting Gift for Christmas. Before Christmas we were both very busy creating pencil and oil portraits for clients to give as presents. We weren’t able to post any of them on our blog, as they were surprises. However we can start to post them now!
We are thrilled to share this oil painting of the most adorable dog named Molly, complete with her pink bow! David commissioned the painting as a Christmas gift. This was a bit of an unusual one for us, as we were right at the end of our schedule for the year.
However our client, David Howells, is local to us and was able to collect the portrait in person. This meant we could squeeze this painting in as Nicholas’s final painting of the year. Nicholas painted the portrait at 10 x 8 inches, a size that works perfectly for smaller breeds and head and shoulders studies.

A Beautiful Little Dog with the Perfect Bow
We believe Molly is a Shih Tzu, or at least she has all the adorable traits of one! Her pink bow adds a lovely pop of colour and really finishes the painting beautifully.
David requested a light blue sky background, which worked perfectly with Molly’s colouring and made the whole portrait feel light, fresh, and cheerful. We managed to frame this piece before Christmas, and it looked absolutely stunning.

Our Dog Portraits in Oils
Nicholas paints all of his dog portraits entirely by hand using traditional techniques. He builds up layers of detail carefully and slowly to bring out each dog’s features. Every commission is a completely unique piece, tailored to reflect the pet’s personality and the owner’s preferences. Whether he paints a studio background or something more personalised like Molly’s soft blue sky, he takes time and care over them to create something simply beautiful.
