Oil Painting of Patton

Welcome to a very special blog post about a very special dog – the Oil Painting of Patton. It’s always an honour to create portraits for families, but some commissions truly stay with us and Patton’s portrait was one of them.

Gene contacted us earlier this year to commission a 12 x 10 oil painting of his beloved dog, Patton. He had chosen a wonderful photo of Patton sitting in the car. Full of presence and calm strength, and hoped to use that pose for the portrait. Very sadly, Patton had just been diagnosed with five types of cancer and Gene wanted to create a lasting tribute. Also a beautiful gift for his wife. Something to help them both remember the loyal companion who had given them so much love.

Gene kindly shared an number of photos but knew the one that he wanted to use was the one of him taken in the car. However Gene asked if we might be able to remove Patton’s harness, which we were more than happy to do. By referencing the additional photos he provided, we were able to paint Patton just as they saw him in every day life.

Once the final painting was complete, we sent a preview to Gene for approval. His response brought a lump to our throats:

“My wife wept. Nothing needs to change. It’s perfect.”

We couldn’t ask for higher praise. It was a privilege to paint Patton and to play a small part in honouring his memory. We hope the portrait brings warmth and comfort for many years to come.

New Presentation Packaging

We have finally received our new packaging for the oil paintings. They will now be packed in our black presentation boxes with cellophane, a rich purple tissue paper and ribbon. I have made new flyers and a new thank you letter to go along side. So all of our packaging matches now between the oils and the pencils. Apart from them being different colours of course.

We placed the portrait in the box and nestled it in tissue paper, ready to wrap it with ribbon.

Finally the Oil Painting of Patton is all wrapped up and ready to pack. I usually add some foam wrap and then place it in a cardboard box. The larger portraits will still have hardboard in but this one was a 12 x 10 and so everything was very sturdy and safe.
