We recently completed this beautiful oil painting of Alfie and Max. Our returning client Katie commissioned the portrait as a surprise gift for her daughter Lizzie’s 25th birthday. The portrait, painted in oils on a 20 x 16 inch canvas, captures the beautiful profiles of both horses, side by side in soft natural light.
This was our second commission for Katie and her family. Back in 2017, we also painted a special portrait of their three Labradors Rex, Rosie and Maco. It was given as a birthday gift for Katie’s husband. You can see that painting here – Triple Labrador Oil Portrait »
Katie reached out to us again earlier this year, this time hoping to surprise her daughter. She wrote – “You may remember you did a fab painting of our 3 labs. (One of which passed away last week), so your painting has become even more precious.” It meant a great deal to us to hear that the original portrait had become such a treasured part of their home.
We discussed ideas for Lizzie’s new portrait in detail. Carefully choosing a composition that also focused on the heads and expressions of Alfie and Max. Katie chose the reference photos, confirmed the size, and placed the deposit. She also selected one of our bespoke handmade frames to complete the piece.
Nicholas painted the portrait with a lot of care and attention to detail. Katie wrote to say – “It’s brilliant thanks so much – so lovely to see them both looking so good – I am sure she will be thrilled – I am – so thanks for your patience!”
