Welcome to our latest blog post for Nicholas’s cat portrait in oils of Bailey. We are so delighted to share Bailey’s portrait, a very special commission from returning clients Barbara and Barrie Trumper. Who came back to us after we created a portrait of their daughter’s beloved cat, Tia.
The portrait of Tia was gifted to Claire in incredibly sad circumstances after Tia’s passing. The piece meant a great deal to the whole family. So when Barbara and Barrie got in touch to commission a portrait of Bailey, Claire’s other cat, it was so lovely. Not only because of the sentiment behind it, but because they trusted Nicholas again with such a meaningful piece for their daughter.
This time, the portrait was to be a joyful one. Bailey is in good health and still very much ruling the roost, keeping Claire on her toes as always. Barbara and Barrie took great care choosing the perfect reference photo. Settling on what they fondly call his “Noble Beast” pose.
The portrait, like Tia’s, is painted at 18 x 14 inches on Linen canvas. Framed with a pale wood, just as before, to create a perfect pair that will one day hang side by side.
When they saw the final painting, Barrie wrote:
“Nicholas, you have produced a superb portrait of Bailey — as was to be anticipated from your portrait of Tia — but this one will be presented to Claire in much happier circumstances.”

“It captures, to perfection, Bailey in what we tend to call his ‘Noble Beast’ pose, looking out on the world with his paw on the pulse.”

“Claire will be really delighted with what will be her Christmas, Birthday and House Warming present, and, as you say, the two portraits will unite Tia and Bailey throughout the years.”

When the portrait arrived, they sent us this message, which we will always treasure:
Dear Melanie, Nicholas and Lily, Bailey’s portrait has arrived safely. After a marathon unwrapping session, upon seeing it, still in its clear wrapper, Barbara exclaimed, ‘Oh Bailey! That is magnificent! Here we have Bailey, in rude health, calmly looking out over his domain and in serene command of the situation. We thank you for your craftsmanship and for your happy communications with us over the production of both portraits.
Barry sent us the photo below – Tia and Bailey reunited again! A lasting tribute to two very loved companions.
