Welcome to my latest blog post about my Tonkinese Cat Portrait in Pencil – Lucy and Charlie. I was so thrilled to hear from our returning client Nancy again after quite a few years. Nancy commissioned a portrait from me back in 2014 of her two beautiful Siamese cats, Tai and Chi. You can see the drawing here on my Siamese Cats Pencil Portrait Blog Post.
This time, Nancy asked me to create a pencil portrait of two gorgeous cats, Lucy and Charlie. They are a pair of Tonkinese kittens belonging to her daughter. Tonkinese cats are a cross between Siamese and Burmese breeds, combining the best of both with their striking eyes, soft coats and beautiful personalities.
Nancy asked for the new portrait to match the size of her original—14 x 11 inches—and to have it sent as a birthday gift to her daughter in New York City. I worked from several photos which Nancy kindly sent and created a beautiful drawing of them cuddling together. They were such delight to draw, I loved every minute of it.
This was Nancy’s response to the finished piece –
“The drawing looks amazing – our daughter will love it. Thanks so much, again, for doing such a wonderful job – a fantastic likeness of her adorable kittens, Charlie and Lucy.”

I am always honoured when clients return to me for another portrait. Especially to celebrate special birthdays.

Happy Clients
Dear Melanie:
Just to let you know that your pencil drawing arrived safe and sound. We showed it to Emma and she absolutely loved it. It looks exactly like Lucy and Charlie – it captured their essence! It will be another family keepsake like the drawing you did of our cats Tai and Chi. Once again, many many thanks for making my daughter’s birthday so special…
Best wishes,
Nancy
