Welcome to my latest commission the Pencil Portrait of Flipette. I really enjoyed drawing her, she was an absolute pleasure to draw. I’m so pleased to be able to share the finished portrait with you. The commission came about as Benoît contacted me to create a gift voucher as a Christmas gift for his friend Laurent.
He shared Flipette’s Instagram photos with me, and while they were lovely, they weren’t quite right for a pencil drawing. I needed a clearer reference to make sure I captured her perfectly. After some photography tips and a new photoshoot, Laurent provided the perfect image! Its so exciting to receive amazing photos to work with.
Bringing Flipette to Life in Pencil
With the chosen reference photo ready, I spent time at my drawing desk to bring Flipette to life. Laurent also requested the addition of Flipette’s medallion on her chest which wasn’t a problem. Once the drawing was complete, I sent final photos for approval and Laurent was thrilled. He said the artwork truly captured Flipette, which is the best feedback I could ask for!
Nicholas took a photo of me with the portrait out in front of our studio, the sun was shining in my eyes, but at least it shows scale!
A Packaging & Shipping Adventure
I carefully packed Flipette’s portrait to ensure it arrived in perfect condition. I sent it off to France, however, the delivery process turned out to be an adventure of its own! The package got stuck at customs for several days, which was a bit concerning. With tracking updates and a few phone calls to the courier, we finally had good news – it was on its way!
I love packing the drawings and the Pencil Portrait of Flipette was no exception, they look so lovely in their boxes. Perhaps one day I will get my packaging printed as my printer is getting slow these days!
