My latest portrait features a truly charming little Dachshund pencil portrait of Kipper. I was delighted to receive a message from Mick Wileman, a returning client who commissioned a pencil drawing of his much loved Staffie ‘Stormy’ back in 2018. Mick reached out again, this time for a portrait of his miniature Dachshund, who he described as being “alive and well and will be five in July.” How wonderful!
Mick’s message was such a pleasure to read and it was lovely to hear that Kipper had brought new joy to his life after the loss of Stormy. He shared a selection of photographs and one in particular stood out to him. Kipper sitting proudly in his crate, nestled in a fleece blanket covered in sausage dogs. It was the perfect reference photo. His head tilt and shiny eyes captured so much personality and warmth! I couldn’t wait to draw him!

Drawing Kipper in Pencil
Mick confirmed the image he wanted to use and I got to work. The softness of Kipper’s fur, those expressive eyes, and his inquisitive look was just perfect for a drawing and I loved it so much. The folds of the blanket added depth and texture around him, which finished the drawing beautifully. Not to mention his little paws! Aren’t they so cute!

A Portrait Full of Personality
When I sent the finished drawing over for approval, Mick replied:
“What a lovely image you have produced of Kipper. We are very happy with the portrait and would not want you to alter anything.”
I packed Kipper’s portrait which you can see below. A few days later I received another wonderful message:
“Kipper arrived safe and well on Friday, what a brilliant job you have done and everyone is admiring the portrait. We have a framer locally who I have spoken to with good reviews and I will commission him to produce a frame when I am not rushed off my feet.”
I’m so pleased the drawing was a success and that it’s already bringing smiles. It’s always an honour to create a portrait for someone a second time, and I’m incredibly grateful to Mick to commission me for the second time.
