Welcome to my latest blog post and commission that I have entitled.. Seven Dogs, One Portrait – A Special Pet Portrait! Some portraits do just hold a special meaning and this one was no exception. When Georgia Duncan first got in touch, she knew she wanted a really special pencil drawing for her friend. She just needed an artist to bring it to reality. Georgia wanted a surprise gift for her friend Patti’s milestone birthday. Patti is the proud owner of seven wonderful dogs. Six golden retrievers and one terrier mix, all with their own unique personality.
Georgia wanted to create something that would bring all of Patti’s beloved dogs together in one portrait but wasn’t sure how to go about it. After discussing the composition, trialling a number of designs, we settled on a composition. We decided that a 16 x 16 inch square design would work best. This also meant the Goldens could all be in a circular arrangement around Jack, the central figure. This layout gave balance to the piece, ensuring that each dog was showcased while maintaining a lovely overall flow.
As you can see they were all such happy little faces and a joy to draw.
“Your masterpiece arrived, and I can’t tell you how thrilled I am with your work, Melanie. Your work is second to NONE!!! You captured each of the dogs beautifully, and I just know my friend is going to be left speechless.”

Melanie,
Your work is outstanding!!!!! But, I knew when I first started researching an artist that you were second to none. You did an absolutely beautiful job with each of the dogs and I couldn’t be happier. I will definitely reach out to you again probably in spring to get another project done. I thank you with all my heart for bringing the dogs to life in each one. I’m so very, very pleased.
You are not only an outstanding artist but I can tell a very special individual. How lucky I was to have found you.
Happy Holidays Melanie and the very best to you in 2023.
Big hug,
Georgia

Melanie, you are a very gifted artist and I must also compliment your packing and your presentation box.
Have a wonderfully happy holiday season Melanie and again thank you so very much. Your website is beautiful and draws the viewer in by the stunning work you display in it. It caught my eye right away and I knew YOU were the artist I wanted to do my work. One of the wisest decisions I’ve ever made.
I’m sending you a huge hug of thanks and good will.
Georgia

Framed Seven Dog Pencil Drawing
When it arrived to my client, she decided that she wanted to have the names drawn under each dog, which I was happy to do. However there was an issue with customs in that we were unable to get it back across the pond to our studio. There was some red tape that we were unable to get around. So my client found someone in the USA to add the names on and of course have the portrait framed. I am delighted to see it all come together and what a happy ending!

A Portrait As A Gift
Creating the seven dog pencil portrait was absolutely brilliant for me, Knowing that Patti would receive such a meaningful gift from her friend Georgia. That makes it even more special. It’s commissions like these that remind me why I love being an artist. Also I love my job and I wouldn’t do anything else!
