Welcome to my latest Cat Pencil Drawing Of Jet commissioned by a client here in Wales! I am so thrilled to be able to share my pencil drawing of Jet, who is very much missed by his family. Rachel commissioned the portrait because she wanted to capture Jet’s memory. She kindly sent over a number of photos, however many were small in resolution, or Jet half in the frame and not suitable for a drawing. Thankfully, Rachel found a head-and-chest photo of Jet, taken with a Snapchat filter. It had been converted to greyscale with bright green eyes, but it still gave me the perfect reference for the drawing.
“Morning Melanie, I’ve actually found a lovely picture of Jet head-on. I know it’s filtered, but I think it will help with his ear. Some of his fluffy mane is visible too.”
Working with limited references can sometimes be tricky. In Jet’s case I was fortunate to have just enough detail and clarity to work from in this photo. Jet’s markings, soft fur, and amazing gaze were all beautifully visible in the chosen image. Perfect for a pencil drawing.

A Special Birthday Gift
The timing of this portrait turned out to be serendipitous. I completed and shared the drawing with Rachel, and by perfect coincidence, it arrived on her birthday. Making the portrait all the more special.
“Hi Melanie, it’s so funny that today is my birthday and you have sent me this. It’s made me cry. It’s like he knew this would be a perfect birthday gift for me. We still miss him so much… Happy tears I must say.”

I completed Jet’s 14″ x 11″ portrait, packed it carefully, and sent it to Rachel. She later shared lovely photos of the framed portrait with me.
“I have received Jet’s portrait — wow, it is amazing. Thank you so much. I totally love it. It has captured everything about him. Hopefully you can use the photos, I tried my best not to get in the reflection!”

As Rachel discovered, along with so many other clients we have spoken to over the years, it is important to take photos of your pet. We always recommend taking a variety of photos while your pet is with you. Even if you’re not planning a portrait straight away. These images can become invaluable keepsakes in years to come.
