Ever wondered what happens once we finish your beautiful pet portraits? We thought we would write a blog post on behind the scenes: how we package your pet portrait for safe worldwide delivery. After all the time and care we put into creating your artwork, we want to make absolutely sure it arrives safely. Whether you are in the UK, the USA or anywhere else in the world I try my utmost best to pack them as well as I possible can for you!
I am going to take you behind the scenes and show you my packing process. Every detail, every layer and the little personal touches I add to make receiving your portrait just as special as commissioning it. This photo below is where it all starts!

Behind the Scenes With The Packing Experience
When I carefully wrap each portrait here in the studio, I know this 45-minute process is just as important as the weeks Nicholas and I spend creating your artwork. Every step is carefully designed, from the cellophane, the tissue paper to the beautiful box for protection. It’s all done with one purpose in mind. To make sure your unboxing moment feels every bit as magical as seeing your pet portrait for the first time. After 28 years of shipping pet portraits worldwide, I have perfected a process that ensures your paintings and drawings arrives safely.
How We Package Your Pet Portrait For Safe Worldwide Delivery
Before any packaging begins, each pet portrait undergoes a final inspection. For oil paintings, I attach our studio stickers to the back of the canvas so that generations ahead know where the paintings have come from. I then carefully place cellophane over the artwork. This creates a protective barrier that prevents any contact with packaging materials while protecting the painting and pencil drawings too.

Behind The Scenes – The Art of Presentation
The next stage is documenting the portrait as I pack it. Before I wrap and box the portrait, I take a moment to lay everything out neatly. I photograph the finished artwork so I can send clear images to my client before it begins its journey. Every portrait includes medium specific care leaflets. Oil painting care differs from pencil drawings, so we provide detailed guidance tailored to your specific artwork. You can see a photo of me below.. taking a photo of one of Nicholas’s latest oil paintings.

Personal Touches That Make The Difference
The next stage is to wrap everything up. I place our logo stickers on the tissue paper, place it in our presentation boxes, which are archival and wrap it all in ribbon. Nicholas has the purple ribbon and tissue paper which I always think is just like a Cadburys chocolate colour. Mine is a beautiful teal colour, which I have to say I was inspired by Fortnum and Mason website. Their rich designs and beautiful colours make everything look so inviting.

Hand Written Notes
I always write a hand written note to go alongside the artwork. I feel that we are loosing the ability to write these days. When was the last time you actually wrote anything with an actual pen?

Most of us keep notes in an app on our phone. We tap away on our computers to write emails and send audio messages to friends and family. So I feel that it’s really important to keep some traditions alive! Especially as all of our artwork is hand drawn and painted too!

Wrapping The Portrait With A Warm Hug
The next stage is to wrap the portrait up in foam wrap. I always think this is like wrapping it in a warm hug before sending the portrait on its way to its owner. This extra layer also provides crucial shock absorption during transit.

Lily’s Seal Of Approval
Our dog Lily provides the final quality check – if she approves of the packaging, we know it’s ready for delivery!
These behind the scenes photos were taken by Nicholas while I was packing the commission. They are completely unposed — just honest glimpses of the care and attention I put into every single package. I wanted to share them with you because I believe in being open about my process. Everything is done right here in the studio, from start to finish. No outsourcing, no shortcuts… we even have to make our own tea and coffee!
After all, when you trust me with something so personal, I think it is only right that you get to see exactly how I look after your portrait right up until it leaves the studio.
