Beagle Dog Portrait in Oils of Joey

Welcome to our latest blog post of our Beagle Dog Portrait in Oils of Joey. Nicholas was delighted to create this beautifully smiling portrait of Joey. A lovable, smiley Beagle who recently joined the family of our returning client, Ben. This is their fourth Beagle and as Ben joked… “everyone has their own response to chaos and despair (Covid Times)… we apparently adopt dogs.” Joey’s arrival came with all the joy and energy a young Beagle brings. Huge ears, wiggly tail and a personality that lights up every room (or field!).

“He is (clearly) another Beagle puppy and he is super sweet. Still growing into those puppy feet and enormous ears… He is a smiley boy with a very wiggly tail. The smile is what gets me.”
– Ben

The portrait was commissioned as a surprise gift for Ben’s wife Marisa. Also with the goal of capturing Joey’s unmistakable smile and excitable spirit. Plus of course his adorable penguin tag and a collar sporting the logo from Friends. Yes, he was named after that Joey – although Ben calls him Joe Elliott after the lead singer of Def Leppard!

The Final Painting

After reviewing a few photos, Ben chose an image of Joey smiling. His trademark expression. We couldn’t agree more, it was the perfect reference! You can see the finished painting that Nicholas created of Joey below.

“OHMYGOODNESSOHMYGOODNESSOHMYGOODNESS!!!!!
He captured him impeccably, that is absolutely beautiful.”

“We spent a lot of time outside in the autumn weather with the dogs. Joey’s smile was evident all weekend and this captures it SO well.”

It means the world to us when clients return to us for more portraits. Ben and Marisa’s connection to their dogs and to our work always makes these commissions extra special. This time, they chose to go with an oil painting instead of a pencil drawing to reflect Joey’s unique personality and joyfulness.

“Marisa LOVED LOVED LOVED her Joey portrait.
She can’t stop showing anyone she can show…
Joey is a unique soul and his portrait is also unique when next to our others.”

Joey’s painting brought joy and emotion during a challenging time (Covid), and we feel truly honoured to be part of their story again.
