Welcome to our latest blog post about the Cocker Spaniel Portrait in Oils traditionally hand painted in oils by Nicholas Beall. Nicholas recently had the pleasure of painting Tobias, a very handsome 15 year-old Cocker Spaniel, in a bespoke oil portrait. His owner, Mauricio, emailed us to ask if we would to immortalize Tobias’s unique characteristics and signature seating posture. Mauricio is from Brazil and this will be our third portrait sent there in our pet portrait career!
Mauricio provided several photographs to guide the portrait, noting:
“The second image represents the most his true colors… The third picture is my favorite; however, I couldn’t find the original file (the image has a filter).”
Understanding the importance of accuracy, especially given the variations in lighting and filters, I focused on capturing Tobias’s true essence. His distinctive bangs, white facial hair, and the bandanas he often wore were integral to portraying his personality.
The chosen canvas size was 13″ x 13″, allowing for a full-body depiction that highlighted Tobias’s characteristic seated pose with his front legs comfortably splayed.
“This is just remarkable. So excited to see it in person.”
Shipping artwork internationally can present challenges, particularly with customs regulations. Mauricio inquired:
“Have you sent any of your work to Mexico? I was wondering if there would be any problems with customs.”
To ensure a smooth delivery, we coordinated to send the portrait to his U.S. address. Once Tobias’s portrait arrived, Mauricio shared:
“I was finally able to get my hands on Tobias’s portrait. You did a FANTASTIC job. I am so happy with the result. Very happy client.”
It’s always a joy to hear such positive feedback and to know that the artwork resonates deeply with clients.
