Pencil Pet Portrait of Beano

One of my favourite commissions last year was the pencil pet portrait of Beano. My client Ellen sent me a WhatsApp message to see if I would be able to draw Beano for Christmas. Luckily I had one space left in my schedule! Ellen initially contacted me in early October to ask about my availability. She had been browsing my website and was drawn to my pencil portraits, which was so good to hear. Ellen sent over a beautiful image of Beano that captured his happy, gentle nature, it was clear to me that it would make a really lovely portrait.

I adjusted the composition slightly to fill in the area beneath his chin and shoulders. This was similar to a portrait I’d previously completed of a dog called Biscuit. Ellen was incredibly understanding and trusting in the process, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable.

I completed Beano’s portrait just in time for Christmas and arranged for a courier to deliver it a couple of days before the big day. Ellen’s reaction to the final drawing was amazing. She said she was stunned by the photos and that I had captured Beano perfectly. It was a joy to read her message and to know how much it meant to her and her husband, Adam.

Happy Clients

A few weeks later, Ellen sent a message to let me know she’d beautifully framed Beano’s portrait and hung it in Adam’s study, where it now has pride of place. She told me how thrilled he was to receive it and that Beano’s portrait now sits directly in his line of sight while he works. Ellen also shared that they had recently welcomed a new Labrador puppy into their home, helping to fill the void Beano had left.

It’s stories like these that remind me why I do what I do. Being able to create something so meaningful for families who have lost a beloved pet is a privilege. Thank you so much to Ellen and Adam for allowing me to share their journey and Beano’s portrait.
