Welcome to our latest Dog and Cottage Oil Pet Portrait with our clients dog Stella front and centre stage! Our client Richard had one particular favourite photo he wanted to use for the portrait and it was of Stella in their beautiful cottage garden. Nicholas painted harbour scenes in the 90’s for galleries in Cornwall. It was a fabulous job during his art college years and a great opportunity for him to practice his skills on painting houses. So when Richard emailed us the photos, Nicholas was really excited to start!
Nicholas painted Stella’s portrait in oils on Italian linen canvas at 20 x 16 inches. It was all completed in good time before the birthday surprise it was intended for. Richard commissioned the portrait for his wife’s birthday and she was absolutely delighted. A lovely email we received from Richard is below, when he saw the final photos of the painting.
Hi Melanie and Nicholas,
Absolutely fantastic you have captured Stella perfectly ! I am so excited to see the painting. I will struggle not to give it to Sally Anne before her birthday!
Regards Richard
Dog and Cottage Oil Pet Portrait In Progress
Here are a couple of photos of Nicholas painting the dog and cottage oil pet portrait of Stella. Nicholas created the undertones in sepia to cover the canvas. He also draws the outlines and basic tones in this way. Nicholas started with the beautiful bright blue sky with clouds behind as you can see in the first photo below. He then continued down the painting with the trees, the roof and then detail on the cottage. Nicholas then added the final details on the Wisteria which you can see below.
The photos of Nicholas’s had in the scene allows you to see the size of the portrait and it gives it scale. The 20 x 16 size paintings are a really lovely size, it’s one of our most popular sizes.
Video of the Portrait
I took the video below just prior to packing the portrait. We hope you get a much better feel for the frame and painting this way. We also hope you enjoy viewing it and don’t forget to subscribe to our channel too!
Dog and Cottage Oil Pet Portrait Framed with Plaque
The portraits frame is absolutely gorgeous and works so well with the natural grass colour in the painting. Our clients also asked us to commission an engraved plaque from our framer. We chose the bronze coloured plaque which matched beautifully.
Cottage portraits like the one of Stella and the Cottage here, really do make for an ideal gift. Not only having a portrait of your pet, you could also opt to have your house or cottage painted. Perhaps you have a second home, or a holiday home that you love but cant visit all that often. Having the reminder of those warm sunny summer holidays can really make you smile through the year.
