Welcome to my latest pencil cat portrait of Tyson. My drawing of Tyson was commissioned by Kim in Massachusetts as a very special way to remember her beloved cat. Sadly, Kim had to say goodbye to Tyson and she reached out to honour his memory with a hand drawn portrait.
Tyson’s portrait is a 12 x 10 inch pencil drawing, created using my usual graphite pencil on Italian paper. Kim provided a lovely selection of photos and one in particular stood out. It showed Tyson’s gentle face and soft, expressive eyes and it immediately felt right for the portrait. When I asked Kim if it was one of her favourites too, she replied…
“Actually, that is one of my favorite pictures and, yes, this is what I had in mind.”

As the portrait came together, I sent photos of my hand on the drawing. Kim shared her excitement…
“I absolutely LOVE it. I can’t wait to see it in person.”

She also asked about framing options and mentioned she loved the colour combination used in Bilbo’s portrait. A distressed frame, cream mount, and a hint of orange to echo Tyson’s colouring. I was more than happy to arrange this and ensure the frame complemented both the drawing and Tyson’s lovely orange tones. Once the portrait was completed and photographed, Kim was over the moon.
“I LOVED it. As soon as I have it hung up, I will send an updated photo!”

Happy Clients!
Tyson’s portrait arrived to Kim safely and she also very kindly had some photos of the portrait displayed with her in them too. I can’t thank Kim enough for doing this, it really makes my website feel so special when clients allow me to feature them on here.
This is actually the second portrait we have created for Kim’s family. Nicholas painted her cat Boone in oils, and you can view his portrait here .. Boone Cat Portrait in Oils.
