I know… I’m talking about pet portraits gift vouchers for Christmas and it’s only the start of October! If you were hoping for a pet portrait this Christmas, a gift voucher might be the perfect answer. Our oil painting diary already runs to June 2027. We are starting to receive the emails such as…can I have a portrait and can I have it before Christmas please? If we could accept all commissions, we would, but we simply can’t fit everyone in.
We have been creating pet portraits for nearly 30 years. All year round, our oil paintings usually fill up 6 to 8 months in advance. The pencil drawings I am currently booking into my January schedule. It’s always disappointing for clients when we can’t create a portrait in time for the big day…
But! It’s only one day! The portrait will be with you for life. If you want to cherish your pet with the best portrait you can commission, it’s worth the wait.
This is where our Gift Vouchers come in very handy. It becomes a wonderful memory of your pet and a focal piece in your home. For years to come, you’ll have a story to share about its creation and the part you played in it.

Pet Portrait Gift vouchers
The last wonderful client who ordered for Nicholas’s December slot incredibly arranged it in May this year. Some people are definitely more organised than others! It took us about 4 weeks to get exactly the right photos of his dog on his sofa. We needed them to match another dog that had sadly passed away. We got there in the end and it will be an amazing and dynamic painting. I can’t give any more details… as it will spoil the Christmas surprise!
So now we are creating vouchers for clients to give their friends and family. In the last two weeks I’ve created three, and not just for Christmas – one anniversary and two birthdays.
I design each card for your recipient, with their name, the occasion, a photo or mock-up of their pet and a personal message. Moonpig prints the cards and posts them to you to write in, or sends them straight to the recipient. Inside, they will find some info from us on the left and a space for your own handwritten message in the center. Our logo and website are on the back. Plus they have the whole lovely process to look forward to.
Why this works so well at Christmas
There is no rush and no pressure. We add the portrait to our commissions list, and they can log in to a private page to see all the portraits in our queue. Your recipient can be part of it too. They can even choose a different photo if they prefer. Plus if its an oil painting they can watch the in progress photos and feel part of its creation.

How Payment Works
There are two simple ways to do it, depending on who the portrait is for.
If it is a gift for someone else, you pay for the portrait in full. You’ve sorted the present completely, and they just send us their chosen photo when they are ready.
If it is for someone in your own family, a husband, wife or partner who shares the pet with you, you can pay a deposit instead. It is really a gift for the whole household. You secure it now with a deposit and pay the balance when we’re ready to start the portrait.
Ordering in time for Christmas
Because the card comes through Moonpig it usually arrives the next day here in the UK. For overseas vouchers we do need to leave a little extra time, so ideally order at least two weeks before the big day. All I need from you is the occasion, the recipient’s name, their pet’s name and a photo of the pet in question.
I will always show you the design before I send anything to print, so you can be sure it is exactly right.
So if you had your heart set on a pet portrait this Christmas and worried you had left it too late, please do not. A pet portrait gift voucher is a lovely way to give one, and it might just turn out to be the gift they look forward to most.
You can see all our voucher designs and read a little more on our gift vouchers page, or simply get in touch and we will sort everything out together.
